How to be the best Videography? Is that the question running behind your head or its what you are looking for whether you are an aspiring videographer or you want to just shoot pro cinematic videos, this tips are for you to master several tips unlocking your videography business or career. Before you know these become your day to day routine things to do. Some of us hard to learn the hard ay, if we knew this tips we would have blown it off. Looking at our scope of East African region mainly Kampala – Uganda and Juba – South Sudan as After Dawn Media this are some of the tips.

1. Always Shoot Steady Video

Get steady body movement that every breath you take doesn’t lead to un waned camera movements, use the ground, a wall, or another object to brace the camera and get interesting visual. A tripod is a handy tool for producing steady video but there are scenarios where you may need to go handheld or use Steadicams or stabilizers.

2. Make creative shoots

Producing videos which intrigue your audience needs angles and perspective, a beginner shoots from a corner of a room or away from action. Involve yourself in the action to get creative shoots. Learn to experiment with different angles by shooting above and below your subjects.

3. Produce Widescreen Videos

With the emergence of smartphone cameras even videos at home are heading the wide screen direction with 16 * 9 ratio. Its not necessarily that you shot wide shoot by mix all shots to bring emotions like close-ups and so on.

4. Avoid Unnecessary Pans and Zooms

Hitting zoom button on every shot while panning across the horizon. The result can leave viewers sick. Let your motion that is happening naturally dominate the video stop chisy random zooms and pans. There are times to zoom or pan professionally follow the action giving the motivation for camera to move up or move lift.

5. Properly position your lights

Knowing where to position lights makes all the difference in achieving a natural effect instead of making people look as though they are about to go to hell. Beside a standard 3 light set up, one directly on the subject, plus a backlight and a fill light, just be creative and experiment to get dramatic effects.

6. Properly compose Interviews

When shooting talking heads into the camera, it could be a sit down news interview or just a conversation with a person on the street. Plan to always shoot professional interviews with leave your viewers engaged with B-rolls and choosing nice backgrounds and when talking about a topic bring props to give it more meaning.

7. Always prepare well for indoor and night videos

When doing indoor or night videos always put lighting in your head to prevent noisy looking videos. As a professional videography, Master your lighting and surely you will see the difference it can make on your footages. Its not about having a monster camera like a Red, Arri or whatever but with good lighting even with your DSLR you can produce amazing footages.

8. Master your exposure during daytime

During daytime more so, when the sun is up please endeavor to master your exposure so as your footage is editable or use diffusers and reflectors to get nice looking video

9. Remember sound is everything

Good audio is an essential complement to high-quality video. Without it, your video may turn out useless. Without proper sound your video is useless, capture cinema sounds on set and mix it up with some sound designs and damn you are good to go.

All this tips are for pro videographers but hold on there are a lot videographer has to do like lighting, camera work, audio and editing so if you can do all these. You are no longer a videographer. You are a professional.
